Shibari / Kinbaku

Shibari (縛り), or Kinbaku (緊縛), is the erotic art of Japanese rope bondage.  Shibari means “to tie”, and this tradition evolved over centuries - from hojujutsu during the feudal Edo era and appearances in kabuki theatres, illustrations and magazines in the old times, to kink culture and shibari art in modern days. Shibari is an intricate mix of eroticism, sadomasochism, exchange of emotions and aesthetics.

The beauty of shibari is not in the katachi (the form) alone - true beauty stems from our kokoro (the heart).

It is not about tying the body, but the ghost in the shell.

It is about revealing the eros.

And rope, is never about the rope.
